Werth's ninth-inning home run gives Phillies win over D-Backs

Raul Ibanez also smacked a solo homer for the Phillies, who bounced back from a 7-4 defeat in the opener of this set on Friday. Philadelphia entered Saturday's contest with a streak of 45 innings (five games) without a home run.

Nelson Figueroa was called upon for the spot start in place of J.A. Happ, who landed on the disabled list with a strained left forearm. In five innings, Figueroa gave up two runs on five hits to take a no-decision. Figueroa was claimed off waivers from the Mets at the start of the season and was 1-1 in three relief appearances prior to Saturday's start.

Jose Contreras (1-1) tossed a scoreless eighth to pick up the win. Ryan Madson worked around a one-out single in the ninth to collect his fourth save of the season for the Phillies, who have won three of four and are off to an 11-6 start.

Kelly Johnson smacked a two-run homer for the Diamondbacks, who have lost seven of nine to fall to 7-10 on the young season.

Ian Kennedy went eight frames, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts to take a no-decision. Juan Gutierrez (0-2) gave up the homer to Werth in the ninth to take the loss.
