05/14/2010 - Raleigh, NC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Carolina Hurricanes have signed right wing Jared Staal to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Staal, the younger brother of Hurricanes captain Eric, was acquired by Carolina on Thursday from Phoenix in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The 19-year-old Staal was selected by the Coyotes in the second round of the 2008 draft. He notched 12 goals and 37 assists for 49 points in 59 games this past season for Sudbury of the Ontario Hockey League, then posted one assist in five games for Phoenix's AHL affiliate in San Antonio.

In addition to Eric, Staal's two other brothers, Marc and Jordan, play in the NHL.
