Americans split with Australia in World Team event

05/16/2010 - Dusseldorf, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Sam Querrey beat Peter Luczak to give the United States an early lead over Australia on the first day of play at the ATP World Team Championship, but Lleyton Hewitt topped John Isner to give the Aussies a split of the opening round-robin matchup.

Querrey rallied for a 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 triumph to give the U.S. the first point of the day, but Hewitt posted a 6-2, 6-4 triumph for Australia in Red Group action.

The day's other matchup from the Red Group saw Jan Hajek of the Czech Republic come away with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver.

In Blue Group action, France and Germany split two matches. Jeremy Chardy notched a 6-2, 6-4 win over Philipp Kohlschreiber to give France the first point, but Andreas Beck claimed a 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 victory over Paul- Henri Mathieu to even it for the host nation.

Germany lost to Serbia in last year's final of the French Open tuneup.

Filip Krajinovic played the first match for Serbia on Sunday in the Blue Group and dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Argentina's Horacio Zeballos.

Each group features four teams in a round-robin format with the winners of each group meeting for the title.

The French Open will get underway next Sunday in Paris.
